Nutrition Food and Bioresource Technology

The mission of the Department is to add value to food and other agro-industrial products through the application of engineering science and technology, and to improve human health through nutrition. This is achieved by disseminating knowledge in nutrition and in the science and technology of foods and other bioresources, alongside research and outreach.

The Department of Nutrition, Food and Bioresource Technology seeks to train candidates who will gain specialised knowledge and expertise in food science, food technology, food engineering, human nutrition, food safety, food service management, dietetics, sports nutrition, and other specialities in bioresource technology. The training programmes aim to produce competent leaders equipped with theoretical, practical, technological, and research competences, coupled with innovative and business skills.

The objectives of the postgraduate programme are, in addition, to train researchers, academics, and development officers capable of taking up high-level jobs in both academic and professional settings, for a meaningful transformation of the agro-industrial and health sectors. Graduates will be individuals with sound analytical, practical, and innovative skills, capable not only of gaining employment in the food industry and in teaching and research institutions, but also of setting up and managing different units of the food industrial sector, working in international organisations, or pursuing research careers in the field.
